RuPaul’s Drag Race Producers Set Their Sights on Broadway

www.thewrap.com: “RuPaul’s Drag Race” may currently be airing its 17th season, but as its Emmy-winning host says in one of her most iconic songs: This is just the beginning. In fact, executive producers and World of Wonder co-founders Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato told TheWrap they have Broadway dreams for the reality TV show mainstay while celebrating the 1,000th performance of “RuPaul’s Drag Race Live!” in Las Vegas.

I would go see this in a heartbeat! I spent far too much time watching Rupaul’s Drag Race. I agree that a show like this would bring so much joy and light. We often complain at CMU that all we do is sad shows and I agree, I also think that extends past CMU and into all the other professional settings. We do a lot of sad or heavy shows these days and while they are also good and important I do not think anyone would complain about a little bit more joy. And one could argue that with our current political climate that drag while fun would also be making a statement reaching more audiences that would hopefully see its value and fight against what is trying to be done and said about drag shows. I do not understand how people watch drag shows and feel anything but joy. They had drag queens at USITT and it immediately filled the room with joy and power. So! I love this idea!
