Broadway’s ‘Redwood’ partners with outdoor retailer REI

www.broadwaynews.com: The Broadway production of “Redwood” has announced a partnership with specialty outdoor retailer REI Co-op. The partnership echoes the musical’s themes of honoring the symbiotic relationship between human wellness and nature, with a goal of raising awareness on the healing benefits of nature and conserving the outdoors.

Redwood seems like a really interesting production, focusing on the powers of nature on the human mind and body. I love the mug idea, and how 30% of proceeds go to the research of nature’s impact. Before this article, I never knew about the research that REI is doing on this topic. This is so incredibly heart-warming to hear that a big company like REI is supporting the theatre! Obviously, we all wish that more companies would do this, but I’m glad that this partnership worked out symbolically. Especially in theatre, where we are such a wasting industry, it’s cool to see this story be used to give back to the environment. The set for this production is really cool, and Idina Menzel being one of the leads is so iconic. I can’t wait to see this show grow on Broadway.

I have been interested in this production. An avid nature lover myself, I often find myself retreating to it in moments of struggle and uncertainty. A storyline that follows this deep, healing, and restorative connection that one can have with nature sounds amazing to me and I would love to see it. I also do find myself wondering how the message of this story is impacted by the fact that it is done in a theatre in the middle of New York City. Regardless, I think it is the perfect time for a story like this. It is amazing to hear that they are collaborating with REI and putting proceeds towards research and initiatives. And while this is great, it sounds like all these proceeds are coming from the sales of this one merch item. And while it is nice that they are supporting research on personal mental health and wellbeing in conjunction with nature, I also feel like there are different paths the production team could take. Now in this country, our national parks, including Redwood National Park, are in a very precarious situation, losing funding, and being dismantled as each day of the Trump administration passes. I do not know what else this production is doing besides this collaboration with REI, but I do really hope that they are supporting the parks and preservation of natural resources more directly as well.

Oh, My Goodness!! I love this!! I am the number one REI stan!! I have a long history with REI so I will always support them. When I was little, we didn’t have an REI in Tallahassee, but every time we went to visit my aunt and uncle in North Carolina we would go to the one in Ashville, mainly just for fun. So it became our tradition. REI was also the first place I ever saw pride merch so they will always have a special place in my heart for making me feel seen. Also I love trees and the outdoors, when it isn’t gross outside. I would really love to see this musical! I don’t know when I will be in nyc again but it is still running I will absolutely be trying to see it. Overall, I just love this! I love that a brand I love and adore is supporting an art form that I love and adore.
