Steel folding-ruler multitool packs a pencil, caliper, pry bar and more

newatlas.com: If the response to our article on the Tiruler is anything to go by, there's a lot of interest in folding-ruler multitools. The Pivot X is the latest to hit Kickstarter, boasting seven handy features in one CNC-machined stainless steel package.

I for one, am now really upset that all multi tools do not come pre packed with an everlasting pencil. I don't know how, but I never seem to be able to find any sort of marking device the moment I actually need one, and the more everything is centralized to one tool the better it is for me. That being said, I unfortunately will not be able to utilize this wonderful tool, because I only understand the stupid American inch foot system, and so centimeters are completely useless to me. I also like that this has a caliper in it, imagine if you were on a hike, like in the video, and suddenly your life depends on telling a grizzly bear the exact diameter of a berry it wants to eat. This tool could be life saving! All it needs is a multi meter and a level, and it could measure just about anything.

This is such an interesting multi-tool. The ruler that folds out is really neat, and something that i could definitely see coming in handy. All too often in the shop I find myself having to make one small measurement, and having to walk across the shop floor just to grab a tape measure can be time-consuming. I do wish that it came in imperial units, as metric is of little use to me. Although it would be a good way to set the conversions into my mind. Having a pry bar as part of the multi tool is a feature that I would very much like to have on a multi-tool of my own. I can usually achieve the same effect using the flathead screwdriver that usually comes in a multi tool, but a purpose built pry bar would almost certainly come in handy. Mostly, I am interested in the "everlasting" pencil. I have never heard of an everlasting pencil so I am curious how this one came about. I am specifically curious as to the quality of the mark and how actually "everlasting" it is. If we have the ability to make pencils that last forever, then why wouldn't they be more popular? I am very suspicious about this feature as it no doubt comes with a catch.

I love these multi tool articles because they are all so different. Whoever came up with the first idea to make a multi tool is genius. Let’s have all these tools that normally are too big to carry, and the common person might not own, and shrink them all down into one affordable tool that you can bring with you everywhere. They have a huge range of tools– I’ve even seen ones with hammers. Every time I read one of these articles I get multi tool fever, and I open all the links and pick my favorites, but I never end up buying them. If I did, I would have no money and 20 different multi tools (which probably isn’t so bad). I’ve never seen a multi tool like this before with a pencil and caliper. Which would be so useful to have on one tool as an architect.
