Buena Vista Social Club Choreographers Justin Peck & Patricia Delgado
dancemagazine.com: In 1997, the album Buena Vista Social Club became an unexpected hit. Named for a popular Cuban music venue that opened in the 1930s, it was recorded in Havana in just seven days by a thrown-together group of Cuban musicians and catapulted Latin music into the spotlight. Now, those beloved songs are getting a fresh audience. A new musical, also called Buena Vista Social Club, is opening at Broadway’s Schoenfeld Theatre on March 19 following a successful off-Broadway run at Atlantic Theater Company in late 2023.

I have heard quite a lot about Buena Vista Social Club mostly because Isa got cast as one of the main lead roles portraying Young Omara. Which it is super awesome to see all of the extremely talented actors that are currently students at Carnegie Mellon University getting cast in all of these major productions and Broadway shows. I do not know much about the actual plot of the musical, but a few of my friends have seen it and enjoyed and the costumes look beautiful. I love how musicals are able to teach me about different individuals and their livelihoods that I would have never known about without exposure to that project. I also watched their morning show performance, which was lovely. I am excited to see how this show progresses throughout the season and continues to grow, and I hope to be able to see it when I go back home for the summer.
