James Taylor songs will fuel upcoming stage musical
Chicago Sun-Times: Alicia Keys, Dolly Parton and Neil Diamond — step aside. The next musical icon to turn their songs into a stage musical will be James Taylor.
Taylor’s songs will fuel “Fire & Rain,” a musical announced Monday, in development with a story by playwright and actor and Steppenwolf Theatre ensemble member Tracy Letts and direction by Tony Award winner and Skokie native David Cromer.

Ugh, what is it with the music industry trying to write musicals. I love James Taylor and I think he’ll probably do it better than those that have come before him so I’m excited that we get more of his music but I also just think that a lot of times it feels like these artists don’t take writing a musical super seriously and that the music just ends up lacking a lot of substance. I don’t know if this is actually true or anything but it is more of just how I feel. I may have misread this article though and if the musical is filled with songs that he’s already written than I guess I’m excited for it but also I think that musicals need to stop taking pre existing songs and putting them into musicals and that we need more new and creative material and not just the same old same old in a slightly different format.
