I commented on these last year. They are kind of a guilty pleasure of mine because I love seeing what goes in them every year and dream of getting one. They are absolutely ridiculous and no one ever needs that amount of stuff but I see the strategy with them. I know I cannot be the only one that gets excited to see what is inside of them or at the minimum curious. These bags generate so much attention and media for the Oscars and I think it is genius. Do I think they should generate that much attention, no. Do I think it is way too much, yes. But do I also think it is a genius marketing strategy, also yes. I also have to believe it is good advertising for the companies that have products in the bags. All around they are simply insane but genius bags that I look forward to seeing every year.

I think it’s absolutely wild how much the Oscars gift bags are worth. Over $216,000 in gifts for nominees is absolutely crazy to me, I mean, a trip to the Maldives alone is worth $23,000, and there’s the luxury wellness retreat in Sri Lanka, expensive skincare, and even $50,000 for home renovation project management. I completely get it. It's all about the marketing and promoting smaller unrecognized brands (especially those affected by wildfires however, it’s still kind of crazy to think about. It’s like a guilty pleasure reading about all the lavish and over-the-top items in the gift bags. I can’t help but think about how most of the celebrities probably don't need half of these items, but it’s cool that some of the gifts, like the disaster recovery services, can be passed on to those affected by the LA wildfires. It feels a little out of touch but also interesting to see how the other half lives. Honestly, I’d be happy with just one of those vouchers, let alone the whole bag!
