Through theater arts, the Music in Me Foundation thwarts bullying
DC Theater Arts: Can music, theater, or dance prevent bullying? Jane Pinczuk says, “Absolutely.” And she has a curriculum and program methodology that backs up her claim.
The Music in Me Foundation International, a Silver Spring, Maryland–based nonprofit, offers afterschool programming, including 17 classes each week at Montgomery County public elementary schools, along with free or low-cost classes at local recreation centers for both youngsters and adults over age 55.

An organization I grew up with and researched for my anti racist project was Metro Theater company which is a very big advocate and creator of these anti-bullying programs through theater. Theater is so powerful, especially the storytelling aspect. I can see how this can help kids not be mean to each other and become bullies. I see the power of theatrical education and psychology. I think there is a reason kids are so strongly drawn to theater and using that draw and power as an educational tool can bring entertainment to what can otherwise be a boring education. I hope that programs like this continue to thrive and grow throughout the country as the purpose of theater expands into something greater. I hope that theater and stories can teach children to be kinder and more empathetic people through letting kids see things through other people's eyes and hearts.
