I wish I could say I was surprised that the President of West Texas A&M University canceled a drag performance, but I’m not. With the amount of controversy going on over LGBTQ+ rights it is no surprise that a college president used his own personal beliefs to justify canceling the show when we knew it was against the law to do so. I am saddened that this happened but am hopeful that the lawsuit is able to accomplish some good for the LGBTQ+ community at A&M as well as around the country. I was extremely surprised and upset at how the President of the University compared drag performances to blackface and blatantly ignored the fact that he was acting against the law in this scenario. I don’t understand how people can decide what's good for a community, specifically a college community, based on their own personal beliefs. I hope that Spectrum WT receives justice and that the lawsuit changes the blatant discrimination that they have faced from University Administrators.

Every day it becomes increasingly prevalent how homophobic and adamant multiple places within this country as well as the individuals within this this country are. These people are going out of their way to slander, tarnish and completely eradicate the image of the drag world and its performers. Everyday I see a knew article regarding the cancelation of drag as well as a plethora of misinformation alongside it. What exactly are these people trying to protect children from? Every excuse they say is juts blatant hemophobia and their is no law that these drag queens are breaking! These highly disrespectful laws that are being put into place to silence these performers violate their rights as citizens as well as the constitution. Additionally cancelling a COLLEGE show is even more outlandish! What happened to we need to protect children? Now its we need to protect young adults? Its just so blantly clear how homophobic this entire situation is and I truly hope justice can be brought in some form to these performers.
