Black Rep, Stages St. Louis among big winners at Theater Circle Awards

www.stltoday.com: “In the Heights” and “Bronte Sister House Party” were among the big winners when the 2023 St. Louis Theater Circle Awards were handed out Monday evening at the Loretto-Hilton Center for the Performing Arts in Webster Groves. Productions by 14 St. Louis companies were honored at the Theater Circle’s first in-person awards ceremony since 2019.

I love St. Louis as a theater town. The Black Rep and Stages are both amazing companies and though I have not personally worked with yet I have a lot of friends who have worked with them. I also have a story about the cast of In the Heights coming into my escape room at 1:00 a.m., but they did not escape. I've known about the Theater Circle awards for most of my life and I have had theater teachers and mentors who have been nominated in one. I'm so excited because Stages seems to be doing a lot more work to diversify their season in the past couple years. Because of some insider information I'm actually shocked by In the Heights winning as much as it did just because I know some things about the process behind that production. I'm also so glad that the Black Rep is gaining popularity and awards because they produce very high quality shows and I'm looking forward to seeing what they produce in the future.
