(SPOILERS!) I really enjoyed watching White Lotus, it was like watching a scripted reality TV show. My favorite and least favorite character was Tanya. (I can do a killer Jennifer Cooliage impression after watching this.) Her costume design was awesome and matched her character so well. It was really cool reading about all of the hidden easter eggs in the costumes and how it alludes to Tanya’s arc and fate at the end of the second season. I never noticed that the Godfather dress was the same one that Tanya ended up wearing at the end of the season, foreshadowing her death. When watching the show myself, I instantly noticed Portia’s interesting style. It was eclectic- but not in a good way, and that was so defining for her character in my opinion. I felt like her style went directly against her goal of being “hip” or “on-trend,” by doing too much or diving too deep into the micro-trends.

So I did not watch White Lotus season one or two but I have been hearing a lot about it off the Internet. Reading this article I really enjoyed taking a look at the Costume Designer‘s process and how so many Easter eggs that exist were found by fans. I really love the Easter egg from the godfather museum and and the dress of a Jennifer Coolidge‘s character Tonya. Spoiler warning I suppose her character was the one who died at the end of the season so I really like how the Costume Designer was able to allude to this without too many fans noticing. I also liked her approach for Aubrey Plaza’s character Harper because I can very much see the inspiration coming from Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday and the designer said that she began to loosen up over the season and just based on images I’ve seen I can definitely see the vision being executed.
