8 Ways To Think About Digital Theater Now, According to Jared Mezzocchi

New York Theater: Jared Mezzocchi is a pioneer in digital theater, and probably its most quoted evangelist, an Obie winning theater artist who works as a multimedia designer, director, playwright, performer, professor and soon to be author.  His most noted success during the pandemic shutdown was the design of the online play Russian Troll Farm: A Workplace Comedy, but that was just one of maybe fifty shows he designed.

I always find the conversations surrounding digital theatre to be super intriguing on the basis that we as a society engage with digital entertainment every day. From watching television to watching TikTok videos, digital entertainment has been around for decades, and with the pandemic, there only then began a rise in the discourse surrounding digital performances, especially live performances of theatre and other artistic mediums. One of the specific topics that was discussed within the article that I would love to draw attention to was the specifics about the accessibility to theatre that the pandemic and digitizing theatre provided for the public. It allowed for people who would not typically engage with theatre to be able to view and enjoy shows in a way that was consumable by them, even if they had no specific interest in seeing the show live, because it gave them the opportunity to consume the content from the comfort of their own homes at their own pace/choice.
