Surprising No One, Three People Needed Medical Treatment on ‘Squid Game’ Reality Show Set

The Mary Sue: In fact, real life Squid Game is antithetical to the very THESIS of Squid Game: society itself is a rat race game with rules made by the elite, and we need to all collectively STOP RUNNING and rise up against them. Sounds a bit like a Communist revolution, right? Well, that seems to be the reality that Squid Game is hinting at with regards to the future of the show.

I was horrified by the Original Squid game show. But I can appreciate a show that is dishing out hypothetical horrific events. However after watching the show I was at a friend's house to film a project, and their little cousin came up before we started and said “come on let's play squid games!” and proceeded to grab a nerf gun. I kept it together internally, this kid had no idea why that comment was so shocking. But anyone who’s seen the Hunger Games movie recently will recall the look on Haymitch’s face as he watched a Capital Father give his son a play sword as a Hunger Games gift, and proceeded to watch the boy chase his sister around. This interaction with my friend's cousin felt like that. How could someone turn such a horrific game propelled by desperation into a frivolous game for fun? So you can imagine my horror at a real life game show. This article supports those gut feelings. It is alarming. And I’m really nervous as to the outcome of the Squid Games creation.

I truly do not understand why people are wanting to simulate a real-life squid game. It almost seems inappropriate given the content of the show. It sounds like a disaster from the start. First of all, they were filming in below freezing conditions. You would think Netflix would be more mindful of stuff like this as to avoid lawsuits, but they probably have enough money they don’t even have to worry about that. That speaks to this whole situation even more. Just like in Squid Game, the elite will never be punished. When something like Squid Game becomes as huge of a phenomenon as it is, most people who watch it don’t actually pay attention to the messages it is trying to send. They get too excited about the widespread obsession and want to dive even deeper. Hence, the creation of Squid Game: The Challenge. I truly do hope no more injuries occur on set, but I also don’t want to root for this ridiculous project.

When I first read the article, I didn't really understand why wanting to recreate a reality TV show in real life would be appealing to anybody, but I quickly remembered that when I was younger, I would always find it funny or I'm using to play games based on some of my favorite shows, including things like wipeout, or even some video games. Although I never really got too far with my ideas ( I very thankfully didn't), sometimes I would watch YouTube videos of these ideas coming to fruition, which although I found amusing at the time, I'm very glad that I didn't go through with any of those ideas. The fact that some of the shows airing nowadays are so realistically violent is moderately frightening to me, and I hope that people are able to decide the difference between what's fake and what's reality. I hope that people are smart enough to figure out when to stop taking their ideas so far.

This is just very odd to me but not particularly surprising. The concept of this reality show seems to me like someone watched the show squid game and said ‘That would be interesting to do in real life’ and completely missed like the whole point of the show. It is also not very surprising to me that they found enough people to actually do the 456 contestants like in the actual show. Although, I do not know, personally, why anyone would sign up to do a reality show version of the squid games. It is also not very shocking that three people have already gotten hurt on the set of the reality show version. If anything I am surprised that it is not a higher number. I will be interested in seeing how the rest of the production process goes for this show and if it actually ends up coming out for people to watch. I guess only time can tell.

There are always risks to doing dangerous stunts on shows, and every time I read about it it is always unfortunate to hear about the experiences actors have to go through for jobs sometimes. However, hearing about a reality show made out of a show that specifically highlights the grotesque hardships of poor people under capitalism and the means in which they will go to to have money to live their lives again, it is really upsetting that people would want to create and watch a realistic version of this for their entertainment, completely missing the point of the original show: that the rich see the struggles of the lower classes as nothing more than entertainment, and will specifically funnel more money into these systems to keep them going. And to hear that Netflix claimed that no one was seriously harmed due to the unsafe working conditions was not much a surprise to me: with such a popular series, and a demand for more content, any company would do whatever it takes to get more content produced, even putting people in danger.

Firstly, I thoroughly enjoyed the humor used in this article. It was a very fun read, especially with the abundance of sarcasm and informal language used. It helped set the tone for which how ridiculous this game and the people signing up for it are. I am not shocked that people would sign up for this game. There are plenty of people on earth who after seeing the consequences of something and understanding the context behind a show like Squid Game would still sign up for the sake of money. Similarly, to what the article stated I also find it very ironic that there is now a Squid Game challenge. It just defeats the entire message behind the premise of the show. Also, I am glad to see this article call out Netflix and their "apology" as well. It is absolutely ridiculous that people are getting injured and that this game exist in real-life.
