I'm so glad that The Color Purple at Signature Theatre and John Proctor Is the Villain at Studio Theatre are getting the recognition they deserve! One of my friends at home works at Signature Theatre and got me front-row tickets to the show, and I cannot even tell you how many times I cried. It was terrific. My one critique of the show was that the scenic design was not clear to me in meaning, and I wish there had been a design note because it was a well-designed show. Although I did not get to see John Proctor Is the Villain at Studio Theatre, I heard about it from classmates and teachers at home. They all loved it. I also did a research project on the script and referenced this production a few times in that, and just from their PR, I could tell that they did the script justice, which isn't the easiest thing to do given the content of the show.

When I saw that the first professional theater production I worked on had 15 nominations, I can’t even state me excitement. It is incredibly well deserved. GALA Theatre is truly one of the most loveliest experiences i’ve had. Especially considering how the GALA is much less funded than Signature Theatre. I wait with baited breathe to see results. I also saw many productions nominated that I recognize which is exciting. I sadly did not get time to see many shows as I was working, graduating, and freelancing. But knowing how high quality the work at Signature is, I do not doubt that their nominations were well deserved. I also must say that the name Helen Hayes was one I hadn’t truly seen the meaning of till this article. Helen Hayes truly set a lot of ground work for theatre in DC and even has a broadway theater near Times Square. Right next to the St. James.
