I am personally so excited for Kid’s Night on Broadway and the implications of targeting theater towards kids and making theater more accessible for young audiences. I feel like so often the art we create is inspired by the art we see, so having an opportunity for children and teens to see and learn about Broadway and professional theater is the first step in creating artists for future generations. I know my high school is doing something similar this year for their musical Beauty and the Beast by providing discount tickets to those twelve and under as well as having a costume contest during intermission. Though it is not sustainable to give away tickets to kids every night of a Broadway run I am hopeful that with new initiatives making “high end” theater more accessible and targeted towards young audiences will become a thing of the future. Until the Kid’s night on Broadway is a step in the right direction.

This is one of the best theatrical programs I have ever seen. I’m all for kids being able to see Broadway shows because it exposes them to something that could change their lives forever. I’m going to school for theatre with the dream of working on Broadway one day, and I have yet to go to New York City and see a Broadway show there. I just saw my first touring production this past summer. Being in theatre has definitely proven to have higher educational achievement. In my high school theatre program, those of us who were actively involved graduated in the top ten percent of our class. Everyone in the program, or if they were in theatre classes, had some sort of educational achievement or showed great progress throughout a semester of taking the class. Theatre does change lives. Art changes lives. Showing kids theatre is so important and I’m glad kids will be able to see shows for free with this Kids Night on Broadway.
