Pittsburgh Opera Breathes New Life Into Mozart’s ‘Marriage of Figaro’

onStage Pittsburgh: First things first. If you’ve seen The Marriage of Figaro once, or a dozen times, there’s a chance you might not have heard Mozart’s music sung by a cast so thoroughly in tune with the delicacies of the old master’s style, than last night’s. Singularly and in the many duets and ensembles, a text book definition of bel canto was on display from the time the curtain rose until it fell.

I have never seen an opera. Although, it is on my list of things to experience in the theatrical world. The Marriage of Figaro seems very intriguing, especially if it is ozart’s music. I have been a fan of Mozart ever since I started playing piano when I was five. It is on the Benedum Stage and it seems as though every piece of this production was thought out carefully and deliberately. This article has nothing but praise for this production in terms of elements, the show as a whole and the actors and actresses. Many of these actors have been either away because of the pandemic, and they were taking a break, or they are having their company debut with this opera. This fact alone is even more impressive because of how shocking and beautiful this piece is. The reviewer calls this a “top-notch production” and one that no one should miss seeing, especially when it is so close and relevant in the Pittsburgh community.
