The contradiction between the comedy of Fleabag and a character like Silvio Berlusconi is a very interesting dynamic. Add into that a “soaring pop score, beats and Eurotrash-style songs” and you have something that is odd but potentially very interesting. It seems like the time to do a show like this, with enough distance that Berlusconi can be made somewhat light of but it is easy to draw parallels between him and some of the bigger name leaders with a large following who are trying to gain power by destroying other groups of people, like Donald Trump and Boris Johnson, plus many other Republican leaders in the United States. We often have a difficult time picturing how politicians back then were able to say awful things and still gain so much power, but it is clearly happening today right under everyone’s nose. Perhaps this show will shine a light on how and why these individuals are able to gain so much power.
