Lawmakers Demand Ticketmaster Probe After Taylor Swift Fiasco

www.ticketnews.com: A consortium of House Democrats is calling on the Department of Justice to take action against Ticketmaster/Live Nation, with 31 signing a letter addressed to Attorney General Merrick Garland that was made public on Friday. The letter asks for Garland and the DOJ to open a formal investigation of Ticketmaster “in light of the Taylor Swift tour fiasco” with the reversal of the approval of the 2010 Ticketmaster/Live Nation merger as a goal.

It is wild to me that this is only just now being brought up and addressed. It seems as though this monopoly that is being discussed in this letter by these representatives has been evident for a while now. Simply because most of the time, the only way to get any tickets for a show is by going through Ticketmaster and buying the tickets from them. And a lot of times their website servers can not handle the amount of traffic that their site is receiving when tickets are released for a big artist, say someone like Taylor Swift for example for no reason whatsoever. I personally think that these actions so could have been taken at least seven years ago if not earlier than that. But it makes sense that someone as big as Taylor Swift would have to have a messy ticket release before anything was even attempted to be done to fix this wild problem.
