Enjoy September Theater in Pittsburgh, al fresco
onStage Pittsburgh: Autumn is officially here on Sept. 23, so there’s still time to enjoy outdoor summer theater in Pittsburgh. Some events are free as part of RADical Days 2022: More than 65 regional “assets” offering free events and experiences from Sept. 9 through Oct. 16. For soccer moms and dads who always have a folding chair in the car, here are other uses for them where BYOC — bring your own chairs — are welcome.

One of the things I love about moving to Pittsburgh for school is just how much theatre and arts there is in this city. From where I’m from, the nearest theatre you could see was almost an hour away. Here, you can just bring a lawn chair 10 minutes away from the school and see a show. I think this is, objectively, one of the coolest things on the planet. I love to see theatre. I love that I can see theatre like literally every single weekend. There is such diversity in these shows happening this month here in Pittsburgh, which is great because it can introduce so many different kinds of shows to people who may have never seen theatre before. Hopefully I’ll be able to see some theatre this month (depending on homework lol). It’s so much fun being able to explore this city and see theatre right at your fingertips. -Hailey Garza
I’m going to echo another commenter here and say that it is so cool how much theater (and art!) there is in Pittsburgh - that I had previously heard very little about. When I moved here from the West Coast, I knew that the art scene was larger than my hometown, but it’s really interesting to see what I’m sure is only some of the theater and performance art in town. I love theater performed in greenspaces - I was a frequenter of various theater genres in the park in my hometown - so Shakespeare and other various theater artists in the park? Definitely up my alley. I also really appreciate how many genres were featured in this article - always great to see some opera! I definitely want to try and see some of this theater (schedule permitting) while I’m in town and over the next four years - there’s so much of it!
