Es Devlin’s Next Stage

The New York Times: Es Devlin was sitting in her garden communing with nature. Or rather, she was waving her phone, trying to get a bird song identification app to pick up chirrups from the surrounding trees. “Definitely two birds talking to each other, isn’t it?” she said. “I always want to know what they are. I’ve got a bit obsessed.”

I had never heard of Es Devlin before reading this article, but I think I may have a new person to look up to. I’ve always been one to take on many different things, in many different areas (partly due to my ADHD). Seeing someone who actually can make a career out of many different passions is extremely inspiring. Since I began considering college and careers, I’ve always worried that if I commit to a single, specific major or career, I won’t be able to pursue my other passions as well, even if they’re not my main thing. Hearing that “her work is taken seriously in all these different places” is so beautiful to hear, and truly reassures me that I can follow in her path if I so choose and be able to live out all my various passions. I aspire to be a “multi-hyphenate”.
