I think getting into sewing is such an interesting process. At first, it’s super difficult to start out and get a feel for it, but as you work on it more and more and just sit and fiddle with the needle and thread, it starts to make so much more sense. I remember being 13 and finally getting my first pair of pointe shoes, not realizing I had to sew the ribbons on myself. My grandma offered to help, but I told her no because I felt it was important to figure it all out on my own. I sat there for probably four hours trying to figure out how to get two ribbons on each shoe. Although I was really frustrated and poked myself with the needle so many times, I’m really glad I spent that time figuring it out when I did. I think sewing is a really important skill to have and everyone should spend time figuring it out at some point.

I remember when I was just starting out sewing, I was eight years old and my grandmother had given me my first sewing machine.
