There is nothing quite like a complex light show using a whole bunch of moving lights. I think it is especially cool when the entire show is done with only one type of light. This light performance was put together with over one hundred of the same unit – the Clay Paky Sharpy Plus Aqua. One of the most impressive things to me is that the Aqua series of Clay Paky’s various fixtures are IP66 rated without the need for an igloo to protect them from weather. It does raise the question of ventilation for me – Sharpy fixtures absolutely need strong cooling fans within them to prevent the light from legitimately melting because the heat of the arc lamp – with the fixture rated to be IP66, where do these vents fall? Are there even vents? If a drop of rain got sucked into the case and hit the lamp, it would almost certainly shatter on contact due to the stark temperature difference – even a latent fingerprint on the lamp could cause it to blow, so a drop of water on a full temperature lamp? A scary thought. In any case, the photos of the light show are stunning – I wish there were a video to go along with it to give the photos more life.
