Pittsburgh City Paper: Pittsburgh will soon see a whole lot more music, theater, and readings, all in the name of the city’s celebrated late playwright August Wilson.

After hearing about the August Wilson African American Cultural Center through our design class presentations from my peers, I am so interested in learning more about their season and different offerings! “This season, the Center continues to support the cultivation and presentation of cultural experiences that advance the mission and preserve the legacy of our namesake, August Wilson,” this quote really excites me, as I have never seen any of their productions, but am so interested in what their take to productions could be. I am particularly excited for the one man show, Frederick Douglass Now, as I have never seen a one man show before and know nothing about this one. I haven't heard of a lot of the productions in their lineup, so my curiosity is piqued. I also clicked on the link to their website, which has so much information on their current exhibits and other upcoming events, I hope I can make my way there sometime soon!

I had researched the August Wilson Cultural Center for a project for Basic Design recently, so I was really excited to see that they had finally posted their season. When I went to explore the building they were already talking about and gearing up for the International Jazz Festival and Blues Heritage Festival. Reading this article, it made me excited to experience some of their events in the season like Chains to Grains which is a staged reading at Hazelwood Green. I also plan on going back to the center to experience the August Wilson exhibit in more detail and to take more time in exploring the building as a whole. Overall, I am very excited to see what this season brings for the Center and I hope that I am able to see some of the exciting things they produce this year.

I have always loved the August Wilson Cultural Center and the amazing works that it brings to Pittsburgh every year. Having been a fan of August Wilson since I was a young kid and enamored by his work, I was thrilled to hear about this place when I moved to Pittsburgh to start grad school. I am really excited that they have officially announced their season this year because I hope to be able to partake in some of their events. This article really highlights what the August Wilson Cultural Center wants people to focus on this year while also providing additional details by linking their website at the bottom of the article. I think that it is equally impressive that they are not only going to be perfoming at their home base in downtown Pittsburgh but also some other locations which will hopefully allow more people to come and experience the works that they bring in each year. I am personally excited to see what their interactive theater series “Behind The Red Door” will entail because it sounds exciting.
