The Frick Pittsburgh's Gilded Age podcast gives expert take on hit HBO series
Arts + Entertainment | Pittsburgh | Pittsburgh City Paper: The Frick Pittsburgh centers many of its art shows, talks, and other programs around the Gilded Age, the period in which its industrialist namesake and his family thrived. It seems only appropriate, then, that Frick staff would be drawn to The Gilded Age, the new hit period drama from HBO. Now fans of the show can get an expert perspective on the show with a new YouTube-based podcast hosted by the Frick.

I have been meaning to watch The Gilded Age for a while now and this may convince me to finally do it. I love Downton Abbey and especially loved all of the historically accurate thought and effort that went into making the show. All of the behind the scenes information that I could get my hands on pertaining to the details of history that appeared in the show were the best part of becoming an avid watcher. I adored how that show made the smooth transition between time periods and paid close attention to the in between phases as well. I know I will have so much fun watching the same amazing work in The Gilded Age. Knowing that there is a podcast out there just for the historical nerdy details that I love, will almost definitely be the push to get me to watch the show. Even though it will mostly be just so I can have context for the podcast.
I love when museums do fun things :). Pittsburgh has such a rich history of and strong ties to the gilded age (for better or worse). Being “The Steel City” it nurtured tycoons like Henry Clay Frick and Andrew Carnegie. While their work was mostly some of the most horrible atrocities that capitalism has ever conceived of, they did create some beautiful buildings and parks in pittsburgh. It’s helped by the fact that The Gilded Age is set squarely in the realm of the rich a la Carnegie and Frick. I think that the huge number of historians and experts gathered in Pittsburgh is so delightful, especially around fashion. Not only have I been planning on watching The Gilded Age, now I have a podcast to listen to afterwards. I’m so excited to see where they take their multimedia capabilities. I want to see them make more content that both supports the wealth of knowledge in Pittsburgh and gives me fun things to watch.
