Ellenore Scott: The Dynamo Choreographer With Two New Broadway Shows

Dance Magazine: At 19, Ellenore Scott was about to give up on a dance career. She knew she had the talent and the training to fulfill her dreams. But she didn’t sing well enough to land Broadway ensemble roles, and none of the companies she auditioned for made offers. The profession she’d worked toward since childhood didn’t seem to want her.

Ellenore Scott seems like a lovely person and I am glad she was able to stay in the business! Burnout and the pressure to land an audition I am sure is overwhelming and I am glad she was able to combat that. I know I have never really considered working outside of theater, but I want to try other production opportunities to make sure where I am working is the best fit for me. Something that I really admire about Scott is how open she is to feedback. I think some directors, designers, choreographers, etc get into a certain creative pattern and then are not as open to feedback or collaboration. Scott clearly is not only open to, but encourages feedback from her dancers. It is also telling that she has a group of dancers who continue to work for her because she is a great person to be around.
