DC Universe themed area is coming to Six Flags Great America
attractionsmagazine.com: Six Flags Great America, in partnership with Warner Bros. Themed Entertainment and DC, revealed the thrilling news today, March 24, 2022, that super heroes and super villains will be taking over the former Yankee Harbor section of the park with their own DC Universe land.

With all the news of extreme technological immersion coming out of Disneyland with its Starcruiser, it's interesting to get this look at the other side of the theme park world. Yes, Six Flags is implementing some technological innovation to its park, such as the mobile ordering system, but the rides itself don't seem to be the main source of renovation. They seem to be letting the IP speak for itself, and keeping true to their audience: a base of people who really enjoy thrill-based roller coasters. It's also interesting to see that one of the key innovations that they feature in this article is a new three tiered season pass system. It's surprising to me that they hadn't had that kind of loyalty system before. I guess I never really looked much into parks' loyalty systems in the past. I knew that Disneyland had an annual pass, but it's possible that even they only have one version of an annual pass. I'm not sure if Six Flags' 3-tier pass will catch on, but it's very possible that it will.
I am not 100% sure why but for some reason, my first thought upon reading the article title was “underdog collaboration”; I guess it is true that both Six Flags and the DC Universe are underdogs compared to the Marvel Universe and its parent company, Disney. I will say however, any sort of themed section of an amusement park is always really fun to observe and look into in terms of creative design. And with these iconic superheroes, I can tell that the the way certain rides have been devised is very fitting and appropriate. Everything from the roller coasters to the food has been properly themed with a variety of DC Comics’ characters, and along with the newer technology implemented into the rides and new shopping experiences in the park, I am sure this will be a hit for any DC Comics or roller coaster and theme park enjoyer.
I am extremely excited to see that DC is partnering with six flags to create a themed area within the park. I hope these rides are updated and are also kept safe as news has been coming out recently of rides failing. I love seeing that DC is finally having its own themed area as there have been rides here and there in universal mixed in with other superheroes but there hasn't been a dedicated space. Growing up going to six flags I must saw it was never a top tier amusement park rather a park people would go to because it was close. Of course a fan favorite was the superman ride so I am excited to see this world be expanded more. I hope this themed area can bring some life into six flags and also bring more people into the park. I personally will be excited for the super villain swing and hope they will bring in even more themed rides moving forward.
Oh wow, this is pretty awesome to see! Marvel is definitely the bigger superhero brand with more audience appeal and whatnot, but I've got a big soft spot for DC comics, since my sister always made me watch Justice League and a bunch of the animated batman movies. It's really cool now to see DC get their own themed space in an amusement park! I've never been to six flags, and I don't see myself going any time soon (I live 4 hours by car away from Cedar Point, which is arguably one of the best amusement parks in the country, so I'd just rather go there), but if I'm ever around that area, I'll have to give it a go!
As a side note, I genuinely wonder what being a designer for a coaster like this is like when you're stuck with corporate constraints due to the IP that you're working with. I once saw a document laying out what specific elements spiderman stories could and could not have, and it's very restrictive. With coasters I imagine it's less restrictive, but still.
