Round House month-long new play fest starts April 5

DC Metro Theater Arts: Round House Theatre, continuing its longstanding commitment to new-play development and to developing a body of new work that will help reshape the face of American theater, announces the full slate of plays comprising the inaugural year of the National Capital New Play Festival. The annual event will celebrate new work by some of the country’s leading playwrights and newer voices.

I think that these kinds of programs are so incredibly important to not only theatre but the arts in general. To get together so many new works in one place can be extremely challenging but also really rewarding for audiences and artists alike. I think something very interesting that the article talked about was the role of the audience in new works. Because in reality a play is not much without an audience to view it. I like that this program is viewing the audience as part of the process of developing these plays. In general I just simply love arts festivals, they create such a good space to make so many different works more accessible in a single place and time. In addition, there seems to be a great variety of the works presented at this festival. Particularly interesting is the one woman show that is one of the development readings, that follows a woman in Russia during the 2000s, considering the current war.
