Upon clicking on this article, most people would definitely not be surprised that I am commenting on this. To say that I love tools and researching them and buying them and using them would be an understatement. At home, I own tool sets from almost every major tool brand. I have used impact drivers and drills from Craftsman, Dewalt, Makita, Milwaukee, Ridgid, and Hilti. To this date, I think my favorite impact driver is Milwaukee's M18 Fuel with OneKey. On top of being very powerful, it is light and can run off one of the medium sized batteries for a long time. The OneKey feature allows you to track, disable, enable, and put geofences on your tools to help prevent theft. Currently, I only own the drill and impact driver from this set, but I also own the reciprocating saw, circular saw, and a few more tools in the M18 line. I love to see that Milwaukee made it into the top tools on this article.

As a personal fan of Makita drills and impact drivers, that part of me agrees with the choices on this list. Having used many other brands, The only one that seems to out so it in terms of power and ability seems to the dewalt driver. I wonder if that was in their testing and, if it was, why it was not at the top of their lists. The thing i found interesting, but entirely valid, is their methods for testing and determining were very objective: power, speed, torque, weight.... However, in using a tool I find one of the best is the versatility that comes from human manipulation. An impact driver that responds better to the pressure you apply and the amount you pull the trigger makes it a better too to me. You don’t have to then try to conform to the tool and it really does become an extension of you and your ability like the sword in sword fighting.

Pro Tools has become a very faithful website when it comes to tool reviews. I do not hesitate to read any article I find by them and I am rarely disappointed. This review on impact drivers was another great article by Pro Tools. I really like how it was not just a simple, 3 bullet point list, of impact drivers that came out on top overall. They really broke it up into useful categories and helped differentiate that the best overall may not be the tool for you if you know you need it for a specific purpose. I also appreciated how they went into detail about what the testing parameters were for each drill and the amount of effort that was put in to try and keep the testing fair. My only complaint for this article is that is seems a little lengthy for a Pro Tool review. Usually they are good for a quick read but it seemed like they got bogged down by trying to prove that their test was legitimate and sacrificed their standard format to do so.

The idea of connecting your impact driver to an app to control the features is both really strange and really intriguing to me. I had never thought that this would become a reality until now, but now that I think about it, I kind of like it. The driver definitely should function to its top capability without it, but in order to check specs or maintenance or to tweak really specific bits, I think it could be really useful. Just the idea of programming them is crazy to me. I am glad that they are becoming this technical. If you look at the scope from old school torquey corded drills that would break your wrist without a thought to where we are now is quite a big range of drills and drivers. This is becoming a tool with more capabilities than anyone could ever have thought about before. I would love to get my hands on one of those Makitas to check out.
