This is yet another example of America's refusal to increase lower-paid workers' wages at the same or similar rate as the CEOs or other higher-ups of any company. I do not understand how people support tax cuts and protections for big businesses while simultaneously working against any raise for workers within that organization. Now that Broadway box offices are receiving a lot more money from the public than in previous years, it is natural that the people who allowed Broadway to get that money should share a cut of it. This would mean that the union should support the efforts from Broadway by accepting the cuts from musicals like Mean Girls, but I think that what the union really wants is for every person to be rewarded for all they have done to put Broadway where it is. Even those who work shopped shows that did not make it big vastly improved Broadway as a whole and it would be very wrong to treat payment for helping people make better theater as a competition or something based on commission.
