Review Roundup: Did the New Cast of MY FAIR LADY Have a Little Bit of Luck with the Critics?

Finally, this should have been the opening cast of the show. Laura Benanti was made to play Eliza and she just has the right voice. I did not like Lauren Ambrose from the videos I saw and even the Tony performance, there was something slightly disingenuous about her. Also Danny Burstein just looks a little older and more like a father then Mr Butz, he also looks more gruff, it’s probably the beard. It is an amazing production from that aspect, the decision to use mauve as the main colour during the Ascot Gavotte instead of the traditional black and white is incredibly marvelous because it unifies the aristocracy even more and somehow manages to make them even more haughty than before. All in all it is a spectacular production that I hope to see on tour someday, and will remain the iconic musical of all musicals as long as a competent vocalist and performer continue to carry the show as Eliza.
