Actors' Equity Sets Up Relief Fund for Members Affected by Lab Strike

www.broadwayworld.com: Following the announcement earlier this month that Equity's National Council has authorized a strike against the Broadway League for all Development work, Actors' Equity Association has just announced plans for relief for affected members.

It is really good to see that Equity is trying to financially support members who are unable to take gigs because of the strike. In the end, the entire point of unions is to support the workers, so it would be problematic and ironic for union decisions to be creating financial difficulties for union members. I already know it can be difficult for actors to balance taking the step in their career to join AEA but not taking it too soon for them to land enough Equity jobs while being unable to take non-union roles. Going union too soon can be really problematic for getting enough jobs. Needing to worry about being unable to take even more work due to a strike would only add to that. I hope that AEA and the Broadway League come to a resolution soon, but I’m glad that in the meantime the actors are being supported.
