Bosch GLM400C Interior and Exterior Laser Goes the Distance

Home Fixated: We’ve been fans of Bosch laser distance measuring devices since they first started coming on the market several years ago. Comparing the laser measuring tools of today to those from four years ago is a bit like comparing televisions from the 1970’s to today’s flat screens.

I have never used a laser to measure anything before, only laser levels, but after seeing this, I really wonder why I have not. It seems like an incredibly useful tool. I always wondered about their accuracy, but the crosshairs and the view finder with the zoom here seems like you would have almost no question of whether or not you are measuring the right distance. I think a tool like this could be a significant addition to my toolbox, even if it would not be extremely useful in a scene shop, during load in, I think it would be used all the time. I can see how anyone who does any construction outside would find this almost indispensable after getting used to using it. It might take a few weeks to really learn to trust it, but after that, I think it would make its way into every contractor’s toolbelt.

I have had a laser tape measure in my day to day work tool bag for the last few years, and I have always found it super useful. Back home, a lot of the work I did was in events. With this, I was often working in new spaces that were never meant to be used for shows. Every single event seemed to go about the same way... start working with the person or people throwing the event, visit the space, create some renderings and drawings, then a few weeks later...throw the event. The most crucial part of this is the space visit. This visit is often my only chance to get all the information I need from the space. This information includes pictures, looking around for outlets and breakers to figure out power runs and most importantly, measurements. These measurements are often over 100 feet, and for this reason, my laser tape always saves the day. I would not be able to comfortably take these measurements without it, and more importantly, I would not be able to get my events done without it.
