'Ruined' a cruel story of women in Congo

CHICAGO SUN-TIMES: "For decades, Congo and other countries have turned the heart of Africa, rich with mineral resources, into an off-and-on war zone ruled by greed and ethnic hatred.
It was in this unstable corner of the world where playwright Lynn Nottage found the inspiration for her new play 'Ruined,' which is making its world premiere at the Goodman Theatre under the direction of Kate Whoriskey."

A checklist for staging Chekhov

TheStar.com: "How do you perform the works of Anton Chekhov properly?
That's been a major debate throughout the theatrical world since the day they were written. Some productions opt for shrieking tragedy, others settle into a miasma of melancholy, while a few tred the dangerous path of black comedy."

Broadway roaring through tough times

TheStar.com: "Go big or go home.

An honorable way to celebrate Veteran's Day.

In a ceremony today led by President Bush, the Intrepid Sea,

Air & Space Museum in New York City re-opened in honor
of Veteran's Day. Chicago Scenic Studios, Inc. is proud to
have been part of the significant revitalization.

The floating museum, docked at Pier 86 on the Hudson River
in Manhattan, is housed in the U.S.S. Intrepid, an aircraft carrier
that served in World War II and again during the Vietnam War.
The $115 million renovation was designed in part by Chicago's
Eva Maddox of Eva Maddox Branded Environments /
Perkins + Will Architects.

Since this renovation allows visitors access to areas of the ship
that have not previously been public, much of the work that
Chicago Scenic performed involved installing protective gates
and railings that allow access to new areas of the ship while
maintaining guest safety standards. In the ship's Foc's'sle
(the forecastle of the ship), we installed protective acrylic
covers to preserve graffiti and artwork that shipmates had
inscribed on the ship, much of it dating back to the 1940s.

Chicago Scenic also installed signage on the flight deck
commemorating donors and trustees.

NIN in Worcester

- John Huntington's Entertainment Technology Blog - : "My friend Jamie Anderson of Rational Acoustics got in touch with Jamie Pollack, Firehouse's system engineer on the tour and we were able to get in to hear the system during soundcheck, which was great. The PA is an all new L-Acoustics K1 system, which is in its 'pilot' phase; the same cabinets were out on Radiohead this summer. I have worked on a lot of big systems, and I have to say I was never really a fan of L-Acoustics' V-DOSC series of speakers. But the K1 is a whole different story, and Jamie and mixer Pete Klepper had the system sounding great!"

FCC Puts Screws to Live Event Audio Industry

FOH online: "OH has been at the forefront of fighting the white space battle with the FCC for almost two years. We received word that the Federal Communications Commission followed the money and voted to allow technology companies like Google, Microsoft, Dell and Motorola to produce consumer devices that will use radio frequency (RF) spectrum now being used by wireless microphone systems. The decision comes despite objections from FCC engineers and the 100% failure rate of prototype devices in “real world” tests."
