BroadwayWorld: It’s been years since legendary singer Omara Portuondo last entered a recording studio. I would really like to see this show! I know very little about it - I know it centers around Cuban music and culture, and that a CMU alum is in the company, but that’s about it. However, after reading this article, I think it would be a great time! All of the reviews were very positive, citing a very tight story and incredible displays of talent, both from the band and from the actors. I especially liked all the recognition the band is getting; they’re on stage for the whole show, and all the music is incredibly lively and technically challenging. In addition, the entire story centers around the importance of music, so it’s fantastic to see the musician getting the recognition they deserve. As a whole, I think I would really like to see this show - it seems like a really fun experience, for both audiences and performers alike, and I’ll definitely look out for it if it ever comes to town!

I’m very happy about this! I absolutely adore Buena Vista, seeing it with my parents is an experience I’ll never forget. Although I’m not Cuban, representation is representation and I’ve never seen a production of so many hispanics singing latin music on stage like this before. I also know one of the guitar players (Renecito)!! I think this show can be very successful on tour without having to cut a lot, if not any, of the scenery the same way that other shows have to make themselves smaller for tours. I am also very happy and excited for all the hispanic actors that get to perform in a setting like this where they’re celebrating their culture. I hope a little kid sees the show and gets inspired because they see an entire show made up of people that look like them. I would really love to experience this show again, so I hope it comes either to Pittsburgh or to Sarasota or Tampa when I'm back home.
