I am so disheartened by the fact that this merger is going forward and the judge has passed it through. I do see how this would be a great financial decision, but when it comes to the artistic merit of the film industry this sucks. I had recently been looking into the management practices of the Shuberts and found that in 1950 they had an antitrust lawsuit filed against them and the Supreme Court ruled that they were a monopoly and needs to release some of the theaters in their control. I wish that case could be used as a blueprint for why this merger is a bad idea, as it does create a monopoly within the industry that already only had a few truly major players. Warner Bros and Paramount are industry giants and the main studios that existed in the Golden Age of film and it's actually mind blowing to me that a judge can't see how this will permanently affect the current film industry (which kind of isn't doing amazing) and make it so much worse for artistic expression and the people who will be able to make films now.
