The New Witchy Aesthetic, Inspired by American Horror Story and Practical Magic 2

www.elle.com: The chic, stylish archetypes of witchy fashion have come a long way from broomsticks and pointy hats. In fact, the fashionable witch trope has long (and famously) enchanted designers ranging from Vivienne Westwood to Rei Kawakubo on the runway.

I really enjoyed reading this article. This new “witch” aesthetic is extremely popular, and I have seen several videos regarding this fashion style recently on my social media with fall starting. I think that this aesthetic is rising in popularity right now because handmade fashion is also rising in popularity. This article discussed how a large portion of the “modern witch” aesthetic revolves around distressing garments or handmaking accessories to create unique textures, colors, and shapes in these fashion pieces. Handmade fashion has been a popular fashion trend all year long as a response to dissatisfaction from fast-fashion’s mass manufacturing, poor quality, and environmental waste. People have started upcycling, or changing the clothes they already have in their closet/they find thrifting to make unique, fashion forward pieces out of what would have typically been thrown away. With fall fashions flooding in, the followers of handmade fashion are probably going to embrace the “modern witch” aesthetic as their way of staying in style this season.
