Wisconsin Lawmakers Consider Ticket Resale Cap as Critics Warn of Unintended Consequences

TicketNews: Wisconsin lawmakers are weighing a proposal aimed at curbing high-priced ticket resales, but opponents argue the measure could ultimately hurt consumers by reducing competition in the secondary market while doing little to address pricing practices controlled by event operators and primary ticket sellers.

I think regulation of ticket prices would be a benefit to customers. But I think only putting restrictions on resale without considering original ticket prices will probably be more negatively impactful for consumers in the long run. This makes me wonder what more effective measures can be taken to protect customers from extreme prices without also reducing options. The way that shows now immediately sell out because people buy out the tickets and then up price them is not the intention of the system and that is the issue that legislators should be targeting. I feel like we could come up with other methods than solely price capping to reduce this. But I also would be interested in seeing what the impact is on reselling if the law was passed. I hope that this is being proposed because it is what people in Wisconsin want.
