Floating drones stream light, water and sound in synchronized shows

newatlas.com: Traditional fountains are all very well and good, but … they have a way of always staying in the same place, in the same configuration. Arivia is out to change that, with fleets of synchronized illuminated aquatic drones that shoot out water while playing music.

I think these floating drones look so cool and are such a unique concept. One of my favorite pieces at California Adventure is (world of color). I just love watching the lit up fountain show and I could imagine how cool it would be to see something like this incorporated into a water show of that scale. I do wonder about the logistics in terms of maintenance for these devices. From the picture, it is a rendering of the Arivia aquatic drone show in Dubai where they appear to be on the open water. I worry about the long term challenges of maintaining equipment in open water (especially salt water). If you have ever worked on a boat that spends any amount of time in bodies of salt water you will know the constant battle against the corrosive nature of salt. I also think it is cool they are able to gather environmental data as well.

It’s amazing what people think up. I have seen water features that have varying sprays of water lighted up, but I haven't ever thought people would think to add the extra complexity of horizontal movement. New technology is always interesting because a lot of it is something that couldn’t have been done without recent advancements in the field, but there is also a large amount that could have been done sooner but it was waiting for someone to imagine it and make it happen. I recently attended an event in the home of inventor Dean Kamen and looking at all of the iterations of his creations he had displayed showed how these innovators aren’t just creative but are also persistent enough to not give up when their projects hit a roadblock. I hope that I can find a project that I am passionate about in the same way these inventors care about what they are making.
