Disneyland's RISE OF THE RESISTANCE Closes Indefinitely
Nerdist: Ever since it opened in 2020, Rise of the Resistance at Star Wars: Opens in a new tabGalaxy’s Edge has been a signature attraction at Disneyland. The Anaheim theme park got its version of the ride several months after the one in Walt Disney World. But for Star Wars fans, it was worth the wait. It stands as one of the greatest dark rides in history, and has had nothing but long lines since it opened.

Personally, I’ve never been to Disneyland with Rise of the Resistance. It is interesting to see how such popular IPs could turn into signature attractions of a theme park, and tons of people come just for their love of this movie. I remembered when Shanghai Disneyland first opened the Zootopia attraction, people flew from not only China but also other countries to visit this real-life Zootopia. However, it is one of the most trouble-prone attractions in Shanghai Disneyland, constantly shutting down for repairs. The connection between people’s love towards the IPs themselves has allowed the attractions to hold certain emotions. With that emotion, the attractions become inseparable from the users’ experience in this magical world that Disney is trying to create in their theme park. The temporal closing of the Rise of the Resistance will lead to a drop in tourists. However, it will still create anticipation for fans who are always willing to come back and expect more from the attraction experience.
I was really bummed when I first read this headline. I rode Rise of the Resistance with my family a few years ago, and it was incredible! It was so entertaining, and I truly believed that I was in the Star Wars universe! This experience makes you feel like a character in the story with a mission to accomplish! It was for sure my favorite thing that we did at Disney World! I absolutely love all immersive experiences! The way that they bend reality really excites me. This applies to theatre too! I love the way that these experiences really bring you into their world. I have never thought about the seasonal change that this article proposed. I think that it would be really cool to transform Rise of the Resistance into Rise of the Republic for Star Wars’ fiftieth birthday. It would be amazing to have a throwback to celebrate the history of this amazing franchise that led to this experience even being possible today.
I’ve been fortunate enough to ride Rise of the Resistance in Orlando with regular frequency, and it is nothing short of extraordinary. Despite being six years old, it still remains Disney’s premier dark ride, with effects that have aged incredibly well. The flight from Galaxy’s Edge up to the Star Destroyer is still mind blowing, and the breakout scene is also incredible. The attraction remains the most complex on earth, with 3 different ride systems integrated into one complete experience. I wonder if this has something to do with the fact that Disneyland announced the Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge themed land in Anaheim would be moved back in its timeline to be in the original trilogy, with Orlando remaining unchanged. Perhaps they are also moving Rise of the Resistance back to the original trilogy as well. They also could be doing maintenance work on the attraction, as the versions on both coasts have been prone to technical difficulties since they opened in 2019 and 2020. Regardless, I'm sure Disney will have the attraction back up and running sooner or later.
While I have not personally ridden the Rise of the Resistance ride, I remember learning a small amount of the making of the Rise of the Resistance ride and it was really cool to hear about what really went into it. I have been to Galaxy's edge and was extremely impressed by how intricately designed and fabricated everything was. Walking into the park truly feels like you have been transported to another planet filled with spaceships, aliens, and floating islands just around the corner. I feel like Disney oftentimes does not get enough credit for how impressive their design features are. Any one hiccup could sever the suspension of disbelief for guests and they do such a good job in making every little detail work. There is a show on Disney plus about the engineering and design work behind not only each ride but oftentimes the lines leading to each ride that I would highly recommend. Knowing how the different rides were constructed has made going since then way more interesting.
