Kate Shindle on Why She’s Stepping Down as Actors’ Equity President

I remember coming across a bootleg recording of the musical Wonderland a few years ago and becoming obsessed with the fever dream of a show. Kate Shindle’s performance lives forever in my head. So later when I learned more about her, and that not only was she a former Miss America, but also was the AEA President, I became a huge fan of hers. Now years later seeing this article about her stepping back, my respect for her has grown even more. Ms. Shindle has had a crazy last 9 years, and deserves all the recognition of historical events she has led the organization and community through. I can only imagine the difficulty of such a position during the height of the pandemic. The theatre community has always been a safe space for people, and it clear from the interview that she really takes safety seriously, physically and mentally.
