Wild Facial Hair from the 2023 National Beard & Moustache Championships

mymodernmet.com: Daytona Beach was full of fun facial hair as contestants arrived for the 2023 Honest Amish National Beard and Moustache Championships. Photographer Elle Jaye was on hand to shoot the official portraits that let us see the incredible beards, mustaches, and goatees that entered this year's competition.

The moment I opened this article I actually cackled out loud. It was absolutely hilarious to open up a webpage article to the most absurd beards I have ever seen in my life. I think this contest/article/ story is one of the most amazing examples of “why not?” There were 47 categories to the competition and I wish I could begin to explain the absolute absurdity but ( dare I say beautiful?) impressive art that has come out of this competition. Structurally Some of these beards and the way they were shaped must have taken so much time and practice I really cannot think of another word to describe it other than art. At first, I didn't want to say that because when you look at the photo at first there is so much going on at once you kind of don't know what to call it. But then you look at the designs and the intent and planning and quite frankly organization and beauty that went into the beards in the freestyle category is amazing. It makes me laugh because why not? This article reminded me that art can really be anything you want with enough love and effort.

This is SO COOL! I have to be honest I clicked on it because I honestly couldn't believe the title when I read it. I don’t know what I was expecting when I opened the article but what I saw was not it. I think I was expecting mediocre simple beards but that was not the case. I think those are some impressive beards and I think they should all be so proud of their epic beards. I really enjoyed seeing all the different types and creativity. It really shows how everything can be used as a medium for art. One that really caught my attention was the crochet beard. I think it probably caught my attention because it was so different from the rest. I want to know how she attached all the little sea animals to the hanging yarn and how heavy it is. Overall, one of the stranger articles I have clicked on but I have absolutely no regrets.

This article was so fun. I wish there was more of this in the world. I could look at these photos for ages. I love all the funky beard designs. It makes me think a bit of the design for the Hunger games movies. I was surprised that the winner's beard wasn’t more funky. Don’t get me wrong it’s a luscious beard, it just wasn’t funky like many of the others. I also loved the yarn beard that one of the women sported, I thought that was very fun and creative. Also, the outfits that the winners were wearing were iconic. Before this article I didn’t know there was a facial hair competition but I’m so happy I know now. I will definitely look forward to next year’s competition. After this I will also probably go and take a look at some of the past winners of the competition. They are also good design inspiration. I will make sure to save this website.

This is one of the best things I've ever seen in my whole life. It reminds me of when I was a kid and I used to look through the Guinness World Book of Records and just stare at the people who had all the crazy wild facial hair and other random stuff like that. I think that the photos and the competition itself are so cool. I really really enjoy the fact that they let women participate because facial hair shouldn't be limited to just men and that's so cool if they didn't limit it. Also that one crochet beard with all the little sea creatures in it is one of the most adorable things I've ever seen. and it unlocked a new Fascination for me and now I want a crochet yarn beard. also some of these are just so impressive, like genuinely impressive. How did you grow that on your face? How did you style that hair? How is your beard so thick? I swear some of those beards look like I could get lost in it for days or they could hide multiple things in it like the movies and just pull them out randomly. the Mary Poppins bag of all beards if you can say that.

This is an exciting thing I didn’t know existed before today. And I must say I was thoroughly impressed. I really liked the best in show, so fluffy but simple. Strange championships like this have gained popularity as niche hobby culture has seen a resurgence in recent years. I can’t imagine being a judge for something like this. I imagine there would be criteria such as length, thickness, styling, creativity, and there must be a wow factor category because some of these you just look at and have to go wow. It seems loke the championships provide a platform for facial hair enthusiasts to come together, share their passion, and build a sense of community, something that would otherwise be confined to a digital space I assume. These events contribute to the promotion of facial hair culture, challenging stereotypes and showcasing the diversity of styles that individuals can achieve. Seeing such a diverse group of people coming together with fantastic facial hair in common is a delight.

Wow! This was so much fun! I love that this is a thing. I guess it now makes sense that a beard and mustache competition would be a thing, but I have never really thought about it. The only thing I could think about when reading this article was how much it was like dog shows. With all of the different categories and all of the meticulous grooming, I guess the vocabulary reminded me of something similar to the vocabulary they use with dog shows. That being said, the photos were so fun to look at. I like how there was a good mix of just standard but nonetheless impressive styles, then there were also crazy shapes and sculptures, even using the hair on the head as well. I really like the photo of the man who won the competition. I think his beard speaks for itself in its magnitude, but I also love how much attention it draws to his eyes. He looks like he has such kind eyes and he reminds me of Santa.

I didn’t know these kinds of mustaches and beards existed in the real world, and not just in cartoons. Like these styles are actually ludicrous, and quite cool. I think we need more stories like this that are just fun and heartwarming, rather than sensationalist and depressing things. I’m not saying we don’t need stories like that, but I am, however, saying that we should throw in more random stories about things that are interesting. On another note, how much time does it take to 1) grow a beard that long, and 2) style it like some of these people have done, like it is truly impressive, and as someone who doesn’t grow that much facial hair, something I can only appreciate from a distance, per se. I would love to attend one of these championships just for the sheer silliness of it. I don’t think there is really anything else to other than that these guys have some impeccable style.

When I opened this article I chuckled, seeing the pictures of these incredible beards. While most of them are absurd they are so cool and intricate. Prior to reading this article I did not know the Beard and Mustache Championship existed however I am actually very much interested in it. While it is an unconventional art style there is something beautiful about it. The way these beards are structured most have taken a lot of practice and styling. Some of them are just absolutely shocking, with the attention to detail maintaining and designing their beard. I would love to see an interview talking about maintaining, styling, and determining the final product. There are so many cool beards and mustaches, I do not think I could pick a single one. They are all very similar but so different, I truly enjoyed scrolling through all the images.

This is so cool and it inspired me to try to grow a beard even a fraction of as cool as these beards are (for reference, I do not have a beard, but hey, one can only hope for greatness). The beards, the mustaches, the outfits, and the overall vibes are truly incredible and I appreciate all of the efforts that went into creating the contest and growing and grooming these beards and mustaches that are works of art. I wonder if the people growing these beards wear them like this full time, or do they keep them relatively unstyled not for the contest? This article made me especially happy because it reminded me of the times when my dad would grow a beard and eventually shave it off. Instead of shaving it all at once, he would shave parts of it at a time, making multiple funny (though not quite as impressive as these) designs, happily showing them off to my family before he shaved to the next one.
