The 'Sphere' In Las Vegas Leads To Vandalism Before F1 Race

brobible.com: No entertainment in history has ever gone as viral as the ‘Sphere’ in Las Vegas. Not only has it completely captivated social media, tourists in Sin City are flocking to see the glowing orb at every opportunity. There is just one issue— Formula 1 is coming to town.

The Sphere has certainly caused its fair share of drama since being built, as can be expected from a huge globe that has projections on it. With this particular drama, I think the city would have benefitted from thinking a tad more before installing the film. There are always people in Las Vegas, so putting the film up even just a few days before the race means that people who came to Las Vegas with the expectation of grabbing some of the iconic Sphere photos from that bridge will be upset and, in extreme cases, vandalize the film. I think it would have been a smart idea to put the film up the night before the race, giving only a small amount of time for the film to be vandalized. Also, although it isn’t specified in the article, I would think the film should be on the outside of the glass so it isn’t possible to peel it off from the inside, although I don’t know if there is a particular film that has to be installed for outdoor use versus indoor.

The sphere is a marvelous feat of modern engineering. It has been a great innovation in the way that technology is being used in order to make and augment live performance. That being said I do think that the sphere has been a little bit over-hyped. It has felt that a large portion of the entertainment news over the past couple of weeks has been about the sphere and issues relating to the sphere. While it is a feat of engineering, there are a lot of other interesting things happening in the entertainment industry including the opening of several other new theaters.
I think that this vandalism to see the sphere is partially because of how overhyped the sphere is and the culture of Las Vegas. The people in Las Vegas always want to see the most hyped thing, and the thing that has been hyped the most recently is the sphere. Because of this fever to see the most famous thing, they are committing this vandalism.

The covering of bridges and pedestrian walkways during the preparation and run of the Grand Prix was major news. Since I was more in the F1 corner of the internet versus wanting to look at the sphere corner of the internet when this was going on, I heard a lot more about the theory of F1 officials not wanting people to be able to watch the race for free. Which honestly, I think is definitely true or at least a big reason that was considered. There has to be a money aspect to it, because I don’t think the operators of the Sphere (who I imagine have some sort of connection to ownership of the nearby pedestrian bridges) would be big fans of one of the best viewing spots for the Sphere being covered up. It’s just so curious about why the Sphere folks could even be convinced to have their best viewing spots unusable, because between the FIA probably not wanting people to watch the race for free, and the Sphere people probably not wanting people to not be able to use the best photo spot for the round tourist destination, there must have been some pretty serious debate about that.
