Students share the power of community in new show 'Buy Black!' at BSU
DC Theater Arts: Bowie State Theatre has done it again, but this time with all students leading the way! Buy Black! We Don’t Sell to Your Kind, written by Bowie State acting/directing student Raymond Ingram, is a student-led production emphasizing the meaning of community and protecting Black businesses.

I think that “Buy Black! We Don’t Sell to Your Kind” is such a cool concept for a play, and it relays such an important message. It is really cool that Bowie State University has a program that allows students to create their own work and learn how to develop plays. It sounds like it could be similar to Playground, but having mentorship as you go through the process sounds like it will be very beneficial. I thought that it was very interesting to read the interview of the playwright, Raymond Ingram, who is also an actor in the piece. It definitely does sound daunting to share your own piece of work, trust all of your collaborators to stay true to your play and put on work as you intended it to be put on. It was also cool to hear other people's perspectives as well. Having a play that celebrates black business owners put on by what seems like a fully black team is so refreshing.
