Actors’ Equity Association and Broadway League Settle Waitress Grievance

The recent deal between Actors' Equity Association (AEA) and the Broadway League over the "Waitress" tour got me thinking, especially since my friend is on the non-union "Mean Girls" tour. Wondering about how union and nonunion interests work together, I brought it up in class. Turns out, having both types of tours for the same show isn't seen as a great idea. In our discussion, we learned that union productions, like those following AEA rules, stick to certain standards for pay and working conditions. On the flip side, nonunion productions have more wiggle room and might cut costs. It seems producers playing both sides, trying to get the best of both worlds, could be seen as not playing fair. It's a bit like trying to have your cake and eat it too. This settlement is a solution, but it's also stirring up conversations about how the industry should handle these mixed approaches. It boils down to fairness, with a need for everyone involved to be treated right, no matter if they're in a union or not.
