STAFDA Show Report - The Latest in Tool News for 2018
Home Fixated: 2018 was the year, Phoenix was the town, and the annual STAFDA show was the gig for this roving reporter. What’s STAFDA you ask? Why it’s the Specialty Tools And Fasteners Distributors Association, the host of the most powertool-filled event in the country. In fact, it seems that some of the tool manufacturers decided to forego a media event this year in favor of showing off their latest to journalists and influencers at this very trade show.

While I had seen and read about most of these new tools, it is always interesting to get different people's opinions on new tools. The past few years of new tool releases seem to have been really big. Starting with OSHA's new standard on dust collection for concrete, we started to see a whole new world for concrete working tools and shop vacumes. Things like hammer drills and concrete cutting saws saw a huge revamp in designing dust collection systems that barely release dust. Things like shop vacumes when completely HEPA in order to help stay in compliance and more. This year appears to be centered around making things more cordless and better at being cordless per say. This includes larger batteries and higher voltage batteries in order to provide more power for longer too large tools like chop saws and garden tools like lawn mowers and leaf blowers. It looks like a fun new set of tools are on their way into stores.
