Cool Material: Whether you’re looking to learn a new skill, bolstering your resume a bit to help you stand out in a competitive job market, or trying to pivot into an entirely new profession, certificate courses are excellent tools people drastically undervalue. The best part is that a lot of these certificates can be had for the low, low price of Free.

The article introduces really helpful resources for getting more certificates free. It touches on something that I have been thinking about for a while, which is ‘Do I need more certificates on my resume?’. There are many resume formats that separate out the certification section. I have couple at the moment, but couple are not really enough to give a whole section and space to the two. So the question evolves to whether I need more certifications to fill the resume or not bother having a section on them. Some of the certificates on the article could be useful such as the Google Digital Garage, OSHA, First Aid, FEMA training and Google Analytics but some are just resume fillers, or just “an excellent free tool that’ll make your resume shine” as the author puts it. I think at this point the answer becomes clear that I shouldn’t waste my time to something that won’t really add much value to me. But I am really interested in doing the FEMA training.
This article is a very useful resource not just for resume bolstering but also for individuals to be resourceful on their own. I am very interested in the CPR and first aid, google digital garage and FEMA certifications. Some of the courses/certifications being offered are not determining factors in getting you the job because some companies offer different versions of these trainings. It is also really nice to have these for free and not have to pay for them because it gets really frustrating having to look for these courses and realizing you have to pay for it. As college students, we do not want to have to pay for things like this so we sometimes have the mindset that we can wait until we get a job and then someone else will pay for it. I really think that these courses can be helpful and are tools to have in one's back pocket.
