Inside The Lives Of Entertainment Riggers: Tora La Rosa
TheatreArtLife: I started out in the theatre industry as a Stage Manager working for community theatres and during my time with them there was a small group of performers working towards starting their own contemporary circus company, Rock’n’Roll Circus. I joined as the SM and in those days, the cast and crew did everything from costumes to rigging.

I found this article extremely interesting. Tora La Rosa's story of going from a stage manager to a rigger is truly inspiring. I never thought of rigging as a job you kind of just stumble in to. To me, rigging was something that people just knew they wanted to do relatively early in their life. I think the only reason that I thought this was it was the only thing that made sense to me. In my head, rigging meant tons and tons of training, making it difficult to transition into later in your career.
Another thing that really drew me to this article was the fact that I have always been super interested in rigging. From USITT courses to internships and more, I have tried to do as much rigging as I can at my age. At my high school, I did the first ever real "rigging" they had ever done. For our fancy galas that happen once a year in our gym, I decided it made a lot more sense to fly a small piece of truss instead of putting everything on top of our folded in bleachers and now that's the new normal. I hope to learn even more about rigging here at CMU.
