Ilana Glazer Fired Sexual Harassers from Broad City
The Mary Sue: Inspired by Viola Davis’s and Trace Lysette’s #MeToo posts, Broad City star and co-showrunner Ilana Glazer posted one of her own. In the post, Glazer shared that she has been sexually harassed “countless times,” whether she was working as a waitress or as a showrunner. She was even sexually harassed by “a creepyass doctor just last year and filed a complaint with NYC.”

While I think Ilana Glazer's post and this article hit several key points, perhaps the stand out one is the rarity of being able to take recourse from a position of power, without fearing reprisal. Hopefully, in the wake of Harvey Weinstein, not only will more formal avenues of reporting and recourse take shape, but also that status neither protects a guilty party, nor denies anyone the ability to receive restitution for harassment perpetuated against them.
Also, let us not forget that hiring women is not simply a form of protective insurance against harassment, as well as providing a channel through which harassment and assault might be reported. Hiring women is something that should have been done a long time ago, because we are just as competent as - if not sometimes more competent than - our male counterparts. Sexual assault and harassment are only some of the dysfunctional aspects of workplace culture affected by a notable lack of women, and dearth of women in power.
