Nevada Film Office: In film, the sound mixer, also known as a sound recordist or production mixer, is responsible for all of the sound recording on location or in a studio and is considered the head of the sound department. The sound mixer is in charge of hiring/supervising the boom operator and utility sound technician, setting up sound equipment and other recording media, and mixing audio signals in real time.
