Fall for glass art at Phipps Conservatory all over again

www.nextpittsburgh.com: Due to popular demand, the larger-than-life exhibit, SUPER. NATURAL, will remain at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens until Sun., Nov. 5. The show embraces Phipps’ tradition of stunning Fall Flower Shows, newly transformed as the plantings change from tropical summer plants to a colorful cornucopia of chrysanthemums. This is your last chance to see this exclusive blockbuster glass art show during its fall finale.

I am so happy that I got to see this glass arts exhibit at Phipps Conservatory a couple of weeks ago, and I am glad to see that it is getting some publicity as well! Jason Gamrath has produced and created such beautiful, gigantic pieces of work that do not only mimic the flowers and plants that surround them at the Phipps Conservatory. Instead, these sculptures are fantastic surprises as you look at the flowers and plants at the Conservatory and suddenly come across a giant, shiny version of the smaller and softer versions of the plants that you were looking at seconds before. The piece that stood out to me in particular was also one that was pictured towards the middle of this article. The giant lily that sits in the center of a black pond in a more tropical room was absolutely stunning as it contrasted and reflected on the water that is sits on. Everyone take a trip to Phipps!

I have been to Phipps three times now, and the SUPER. NATURAL. glass exhibit blows me away. I had no idea that there was a glass art exhibit when I went the first time during O-week and it was such a pleasant surprise. The sculptures blend really well with the actual plants, as well as add a sort of "scale surprise" and pop of color to the banks of foliage. I have only been to the conservatory during the day, and thus did not know how pretty the exhibits all look at night! These photos are stunning, especially the one of the pitcher plant room. Between the theatrical lighting, the glass ceiling, and the beautiful blue-green glass, it must be even more gorgeous in real life. I'm kind of sad I probably won't be able to see SUPER. NATURAL. again before they take out the exhibit, but if you have time today or tomorrow, I would definitely suggest a visit. I will definitely be visiting the conservatory again in the future either way, and I can't wait to see what they install next.

Glass artwork is one of my favorite things to experience and create. I have worked with local glassblowing artists in Oklahoma City and have found it’s an excellent outlet for creativity and stressful realization. The pieces that are on display here are beautiful examples of what can be done with a lot of time and patience. It is lovely to see other people’s reactions to what is put before their eyes. I think it’s a wonderful and a Gratian between the glass blown art and the natural flowering plants around go to help envelop one in the atmosphere of the space. I think anyone has a chance should definitely make some time to see this magnificent display.

I love Phipps! I just went there to see the glass exhibit with my family a few weeks ago and it was beautiful. Many times the glass flowers seemed to almost blend seemlessly in with the real flowers that surrounded them, and the details in the glass work were amazing. One of my favorite things about Phipps is when they have the lights up around the holiday season. Freshman year a group of us walked across Flagstaff in the snow to go there and it was one of my favorite nights of the semester. I hope I'll have time to go again this year as it was a ton of fun. My one gripe with them is that unless you have a CMU ID to get you in for free tickets are a little pricey. Even senior citizen tickets are about $15 for one trip. I understand it's probably expensive to maintain a place like that, but it does seem like a little much to me.

This is such a wonderful garden. Not only is it unique looking, but it is also a really beautiful display that is a brilliant use of color to tell a story. Such vibrant colors mixed in with nice glass really make for an excellent display. This is another example of what a great city Pittsburgh is for those that are interested in arts and culture.
