'Vanya and Sonia ...' latest to make jump from Broadway to Pittsburgh
TribLIVE: City Theatre Company opens its 2013-14 season with a blazingly fast restaging of a recent Broadway hit.
Just seven weeks after closing on Broadway, Christopher Durang's “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” began previews at City Theatre in one of the first regional theater productions of the comedy.

I am very excited to "Vanya and Sonia..." this Sunday. The show looks absolutely funny, and Susan Tsu's costumes along with Tony Ferrieri's set, and Joe Pino's sound design I don't think the production will fall short of any of my expectations. However, the article does bring up an interesting point about how certain theaters want to do shows that they just simply can't get the rights for. In short, I think that this is where the business becomes a game. You just have to be the first to pick it, secure it, pay for it, and then you win (if it was only as simple as that).
I am also thrilled about seeing "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" in the near future! I saw this production when it first opened on Broadway this summer and really enjoyed myself. I thought that the writing was clever, the costumes were fantastic and I thought that the lack of clothing on Spike was tastefully done. I cannot wait to see Susan's costumes for this production. I couldn't be more excited by the fact that Joe and Susan are both working on this play, being one of my new favorite comedies. Like Jason, I think that theatre in this sense is a game; you have to fight for the rights to do a new production, and if you get them, you better do a great job.
